Our fascination with diamonds is intense and lasting. Somewhat recently our attention has been drawn specifically to the chocolate diamond and the stunning chocolate diamond ring.
To truly appreciate the magnificence of a chocolate diamond ring it helps to understand the long journey the diamond must take before it becomes the centerpiece of that ring. It takes a very specific set of conditions over a period of time to form a brown diamond and bring it to the earth’s surface where it can be found.
For carbon to be transformed into a stunning diamond it takes tremendous heat and pressure over a long period of time. For the diamond to be naturally colored additional conditions are required. Certain elements must be present during the formation of this precious stone. Depending on the elements present the color and the intensity of color will vary.
But all of this happens about ninety or more miles below the surface of the earth, and this is where they remain until they are brought to the surface through volcanic activity. The diamonds are brought up with the magma through volcanic “pipes” or channels where they are deposited close to the surface. Once we find out there are diamonds in the area equipment is set up to begin mining.
Their journey isn’t over there though. When they are mined they need to be separated from rocks and other debris, then they are taken and studied to determine the best cut and polish for each stone. Like a traditional diamond, a chocolate diamond can be cut in a variety of ways.
Natural colored diamonds are a gem to be treasured because the natural color stones that are of jewelry quality are extremely rare. Only one of every ten thousand diamonds mined are natural color diamonds. As if there wasn’t enough of a reason to cherish your chocolate diamond ring.
